Sweet n’ Sour Chicken

I asked our Facebook fans for recipes they wanted to see revamped to be 21 Day Fix safe and I got some great responses! The first one that I wanted to try was Sweet n’ Sour chicken! Usually deep fried and coated in a sauce made with a lot of sugar, this recipe isn’t such an easy one to fix…but I did it! The results are a tender, slightly crunchy chicken with a delicious sweet and sour sauce. Best part, it’s totally 21 Day Fix approved and your whole family will love it! This recipe is also awesome for Weight Watchers. It can be mixed with a bunch of zero point veggies for a wonderful meal!

We really enjoyed this meal! It really hit the spot. We added a green container of broccoli for each serving into the mix while finishing the sauce and it was perfect! This meal will be repeated in our menu next week too!

I was very excited to try this, but once I tasted it, it was too much vinegar. My kids usually can handle the 21 day fix recipes but not this one and I don’t blame them!

I’m excited to try this but I’ll use Bragg’s amino acids instead of soy sauce!!

Does it have to be apple cider vinegar? Or cani use regular?

Hey Leslee, you can use regular but it won’t taste the same. The apple cider vinegar gives the tart/sweet flavor and regular vinegar won’t lend that tart flavor.

For the serving: is the red container just for the chicken? Would a yellow container be for the rice? New to 21 day fix, thanks!

Hey Tara! The red container would just be for the red. Rice would need to be counted as a yellow.

Yes, but it will not thicken up. You need to use flour, or whole wheat flour or cornstarch in order for the sauce to thicken up.

I don’t see how much sweet n sour sauce you use? It is listed as ingredient with no measure. Thanks

Hi Erin. Unfortunately this recipe cannot be adjusted for the Crock-Pot. The sauce is very thick, and would like end up burning it.

I’ve done this recipe in the oven which eliminates the oil. It’s delicious.
